Wuhan Tianhe International Airport is situated in Huangpi District, Wuhan City, Hubei Province, China, approximately 25 kilometers from Wuhan's city center. As the first Class 4F civil international airport in central China, it has undergone several key phases of expansion and renovation to meet growing travel demands.

The airport's Phase II expansion project was completed in April 2008, laying a solid foundation for its development. Construction on the Phase III expansion project began in earnest in June 2013; it passed completion acceptance in June 2017 and later obtained industry acceptance before officially opening to the public in August 2017. Most recently, on November 2, 2023, the renovation project for Tianhe Airport's Terminal 2 (T2) passed industry acceptance, with an official opening scheduled by the end of 2023.

As of April 2024, Wuhan Tianhe International Airport operates two terminals. Terminal 3 (T3) covers a total area of 495,000 square meters, while Terminal 2 (T2) spans 158,400 square meters. The airport is also equipped with 2 runways, supporting its ability to handle large volumes of air traffic.

Alternative Solutions​

The T2 terminal renovation project encompasses several key upgrades, including the design of the hall's suspended ceiling-centered around the theme of "Twinkling Stars & Rippling Waves"-as well as the addition of modern facilities like a naked-eye 3D large screen and non-contact self-service security checkpoints. Set to open in 2023, the revamped T2 terminal will boost its annual passenger handling capacity from 13 million to 15 million. These upgrades do more than just enhance the airport's service capabilities and improve the passenger experience; they also showcase Wuhan's modern image as an international gateway hub in central China.

This section also highlights the complex technologies involved in the ceiling construction for the renovation, such as the installation of the claw system, the welding and hoisting of keels, and the splicing and overall hoisting of aluminum panels-each step requiring precision and expertise to ensure seamless integration.
